We are among the first banks in the SEE region to publish a sustainability report following the newly adopted European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) in full. Although we do not fall under the scope of mandatory disclosure in 2024, our leadership team has accepted this challenge with a commitment to transparency and sustainability, striving to set a positive example for others in the industry.
The report highlights our contribution to our business’s environmental, social, and governance aspects, as well as our financial performance in 2023. It is based on a materiality assessment developed from feedback from 463 customers, business partners and over 1,000 employees on key sustainability topics.
In our pursuit of sustainability through digitization, we reduced our document turnover by 60% during this period, thanks to our innovative internally developed system SYNCRO AI. We expect to be able to reduce paper usage by 90% by the end of 2024.
In the context of environmental responsibility, we have carried out a greenhouse gas inventory and reduced emissions by increasing energy efficiency and optimising the corporate fleet.
In the social sphere, 2023 was a year in which our employees actively contributed to seven social causes. They supported the Sofia Pride march for equal rights, took part in a charity market at our Sofia HQ, buying charity gifts made by mothers of disabled children, donated books to the Bulgarian library of the Regional Centre for Bulgarian Culture in Bolgrad (Ukraine) and others.
With a team of more than 1,800 employees representing 19 nationalities, we stand out for the cultural diversity within our team. By nurturing the professional development of every employee, we report that in 2023, all have received an average of 27 hours of training per year and have successfully completed key Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter Terrorist Financing (CFT) trainings.
Our dedication to the adoption and implementation of ESG policies has distinguished us among the members of the Association of Banks in Bulgaria (ABB), after Sylvia Argirova, our Head of Enterprise Risk Management, was elected Vice Chair of the Social Responsibility Committee in September this year.
